My Best Friend

Last night I was talking to my best friend and I realised something. It came after a fairly serious conversation. We’d been talking about the operation he needs on his back, how it’ll mean he can’t drive for 4 weeks, how his pay is going to be effected as he’ll need to take some time off. What we’ll do while he can’t drive (I can’t drive full stop and his house is really far away & nowhere near a train station) Our future, when we want to move in together, have another baby. That stuff. We talked as we do, about Chops and his relationship with her. We’ve talked about the … Continue reading

Aftermath

Aftermath Have you forgotten yet?… For the world’s events have rumbled on since those gagged days, Like traffic checked while at the crossing of city-ways: And the haunted gap in your mind has filled with thoughts that flow Like clouds in the lit heaven of life; and you’re a man reprieved to go, Taking your peaceful share of Time, with joy to spare. But the past is just the same–and War’s a bloody game… Have you forgotten yet?… Look down, and swear by the slain of the War that you’ll never forget. Do you remember the dark months you held the sector at Mametz– The nights you watched and wired … Continue reading

Blaming The Jones’

I have already written yesterday about Finding April Jones. But having only been up with my daughter for an hour some of the tweets and opinions I’ve seen flying around have made me so worked up I felt I had to say more. To those of you out there who are shouting your mouths off about “Where were her parents?”, “Why was she playing out alone at that time of night?”. Yes. I know these are valid points. I know my daughter wouldn’t be out alone at that time. But are you honestly telling me, that you have NEVER lost sight of your child, not even for one second? Last … Continue reading

Please look carefully at these pictures and keep your eyes wide open today. This little girl is just 5 years old … Continue reading

Dad

This isn’t the first time I’ve written a blog post about my Dad, but the old one is now gone with the olden blogs. And as I saw him today, he’s on my mind and I want to write about him. Last week, it will have been 41 years since my grandfather passed away of a heart attack and my Dad lost his own Dad. My Grandfather was just 50 years of age and my Dad was only 14. I of course, never met my Grandfather and I believe that who my Dad is as a parent has been shaped hugely by this loss. It did not escape our notice … Continue reading

Scroungers

Let me say first and foremost that yes, I am on benefits. Due to my status as a single parent of a 2 year old who will not qualify for those all important 15 hours of nursery until September 2013, I am currently a single, stay at home mother in receipt of Income Support, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. I also receive Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits, same as many parents working or otherwise get for their kids. I work part time, in a pub, one or two nights a week. From the money that I earn in my job, I am allowed to keep £20 a week, the rest will be … Continue reading

The Honeymoon Period

So at risk of boring you all to tears with reference to this new found love of mine (be warned, I’m just getting started), a conversation about G and myself got me thinking tonight about the so called “Honeymoon Phase”. Now I met G around April and we’ve been something of a fairly serious ‘thing’ since sometime around June. Now I know all those of you who have been together or even married and have children and mortgages may be scoffing at me “Serious? Three months and you’re calling it serious?!”. Well, yes actually I am. But that in itself is just my point. Already at this stage in the game, many a … Continue reading
