Having just spent 4 weeks with my partner as he took 2 weeks paternity and 2 weeks holiday, I can totally sympathise. He spent most of this time moaning he was tired (after I'd been up all night with baby!) and playing Xbox! His idea of making me a nutritious meal was ordering a dominoes! If I asked for a glass of water he'd get me a can of coke coz he didn't want to wash up! I've found things much easier now he's gone back to work!

You see, usually I would say it IS a boy thing but having a chef for a husband myself (and having spent much of our 9 year relationship socialising with fellow chefs), I gather that they usually do contribute to the household in practical terms a lot more than most men. Basically now, he has gone into his cave acting like a typical bloke. I know since not working D has found it a lot harder to motivate himself to keep on top of things but he has to on account of my illness.

Chin up, hopefully it will get better. Try giving him a kick up the backside. Xx

I've had surgery on my lower back and I clearly remember the six to eight weeks where you are not allowed to lift anything, drive, etc. I was already going crazy the first day, especially missing my computer. I invented ways to get around not being able to do anything. First my keyboard went on the ironing board so I could type, not being able to sit was a huge problem for me. I did wash dishes, but didn't put them away, I was afraid of stretching too much.

I wish you loads of patience during this time.

I am much like you, as you know.

When I have some money, I will buy a bottle of wine. For maybe a fiver tops, which breaks me because frankly, my favourite wines are £8-10 a bottle and now we are dependent solely on benefits I just can't justify that amount, even if it is only once a week. So, that bottle will last me a good 3 nights usually. My husband will also grab an 8 pack of lagers at the same time. Which will also last the same length of time and is the same price.

Maybe once a month we will take it in turns to "blow out" by which I mean I will drink a whole bottle in one night and another night D will get drunk. But, one of us will ALWAYS be alert enough to tend to H should the need arrive.

H is NEVER in danger. It doesn't affect our relationship. H never goes without food or nappies or treats etc and we always do our main shop first, ensuring we have the money for extras (fresh things like milk bread etc) set aside.

So, I am with you. I assume you have explained to G? Xx

Interesting point. I think we disagree because we have different approaches to it. I drink little and often but don't go out and get drunk, he very rarely drinks unless he's going out and then he'll have a lot in one go. I wouldn't say it was causing a problem but we definitely have different opinions. x

I think drinking becomes a problem when it is affecting other things; relationships, your behaviour, your finances, etc. If/when it does then it is time to take a longer look at it?

That is really brilliant news. I'm happy you now feel confident enough to come off the meds. Sure, things may not always go your way, but, hey, that's life!

However, (you knew there had to be a however) don't feel bad if, at some point in the future, you have to go back on them. Like a cut that re-bleeds, if you need it, you need it.
